Our Lineage
Aikido of Norwalk (Kongōshinkan Dōjō) traces its roots to the teachings of Morihei Ueshiba (O-Sensei), the founder of Aikido, and to the technical lineage of Fumio Toyoda Shihan, one of the most influential Aikido teachers in North America.
Our dojo is part of the Aikido Association of America (AAA) and follows the instructional traditions, technical standards, and teaching principles established by Toyoda Shihan. Through decades of dedicated practice and instruction, this lineage has been passed from teacher to student, preserving both the effectiveness of the techniques and the spirit in which they are taught.
Kongōshinkan Dōjō traces its immediate roots to Yanagi Aikido Dōjō, where Brody Sensei trained for many years under Corey Guilbault Sensei. In 2022, Kongōshinkan Dōjō was established as an independent dojo dedicated to preserving traditional Aikido while serving the Norwalk community.
While organizations, locations, and instructors may change over time, the transmission of Aikido remains rooted in sincere practice, respect for one's teachers, and a commitment to continual improvement. Every student becomes part of that living tradition.
Today, we honor those who came before us by training diligently, supporting one another, and carrying the art forward for future generations.
Our Focus
• Train sincerely.
• Preserve the tradition.
• Develop character through training.
• Support one another.
