Students of all levels train together in an environment focused on mutual cooperation.

About Aikido of Norwalk (Kongōshinkan Dōjō)

Kongōshinkan Dōjō is a traditional Aikido school serving Norwalk and the surrounding communities. Our mission is to provide high-quality martial arts instruction in an environment that promotes personal growth, mutual respect, and lifelong learning.

At our dojo, students of all ages and experience levels train together in a spirit of cooperation rather than competition. Through the practice of Aikido, students develop confidence, awareness, coordination, self-discipline, and practical self-defense skills while building meaningful connections within the dojo community.

Located in East Norwalk, our dojo occupies the second floor of a historic building at 16 Commerce Street. The facility features a spacious tatami training area, changing rooms, and gathering spaces where students and families can connect beyond regular classes. We strive to create an environment that feels both traditional and welcoming—a place where people can challenge themselves, support one another, and grow together.

Whether you are completely new to martial arts or have years of experience, you will find a supportive community dedicated to sincere training and personal development.

Our History

Kongōshinkan Dōjō was established in 2022 as the next chapter in the legacy of Yanagi Aikido and the Aikido community that has served Norwalk for more than two decades.

The roots of our dojo trace back to Yanagi Aikido Dojo, founded in 1999 by Guilbault Sensei. A few years later, Goldstein Sensei joined as co-dojocho and helped guide the growth and development of the school. Over the years, Yanagi Aikido trained at several locations throughout Norwalk before establishing its long-term home at 16 Commerce Street.

Today, Kongōshinkan Dōjō carries that tradition forward while continuing to evolve for a new generation of students. We remain committed to preserving the principles, values, and spirit of traditional Aikido while building a strong and vibrant community for the future.

The name Kongōshinkan Dōjō (金剛心館 道場) may be translated as "Diamond Mind Dojo" or "Indestructible Truth Mind Dojo," reflecting the cultivation of a resilient spirit, clear mind, and sincere heart through training.
