Aikido for Law Enforcement

Price SenseiThe techniques taught in this course are based on the Japanese martial art of Aikido. Aikido is the authorized defensive tactics system used by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, one of the best trained police departments in the world. Learn the following street practical techniques:

  • Takedowns for uncooperative and aggressive subjects
  • Escort, come-along, and control holds
  • Pinning drills and ground pins
  • Working with a partner/second officer on the scene
  • Breathing techniques and controlling stress

The techniques in this course are designed to minimize reliance on strength/body movement and are effective regardless of size or gender. They are also designed to end in a safe, practical handcuffing control hold.

Instruction will be provided by Sgt. Richard Price, Aikido Godan (5th degree blackbelt). As a native of North Carolina, Richard Price began his study of martial arts in 1967 in Seishinkai Karate. In 1986 he began his study of Aikido. He is a certified police defensive tactics instructor in the state of North Carolina. He is also an accredited instructor of Aikiai style Aikido through the Aikido World Alliance (AWA) and serves on the testing and teaching committee for AWA. He is on the advisory board for police tactical applications for the Aikido World Alliance.
